• check_circle <p>If you were to ask most pilots what they envision when they think of mountain flying, there&rsquo;s a pretty good bet it involves a Super Cub with snowshoes strapped to the wing struts and skis on its landing gear. Instead of being thousands of feet in the air, most pilots probably envision treetops and jagged peaks flashing off the wingtip as they hug the side of a mountain valley while descending toward a backcountry airstrip in anticipation of landing. This is the kind of experience we offer.</p>
• check_circle <p>In Colorado, we have mountain flying seminars and courses that include both ground and flight training. A typical flight departs an airport along the Front Range bound for high mountain airports like Granby, Aspen and Leadville. The airplanes used are generally not suitable for landing on anything other than asphalt or concrete, and the skills gained are really nothing more than a better understanding of mountain weather and the effects of altitude on aircraft performance. Actually flying in the mountains is something most mountain flying courses don&rsquo;t do.</p>
• check_circle <p>There is only one known place on the Western Slope of the Rocky Mountains within a two-hour drive of Denver that can accommodate the kind of aircraft and flying we are talking about, and that place is located just minutes from the ski slopes of Winter Park Resort. Located at the north end of the Fraser Valley at an elevation of 8,200 feet, Granby Airport (KGNB) is an ideal base of operations located adjacent to the Continental Divide. In the winter, an average of 375 inches of snow provides an excellent playground for airplanes equipped with skis.</p>
• check_circle <p>Because of its close proximity to Denver, Granby is the ideal location to provide backcountry, mountain, ski and tailwheel flying instruction. There is no need to fly for nearly an hour just to get to the mountains&mdash;the airplane is located on an airstrip in the mountains. In the summer, students will learn to handle the airplane on rough and uneven grass surfaces in semi-confined areas, while gaining the skills necessary to safely navigate the varied mountainous terrain. In winter, students will learn how to properly pre-heat and preflight in sub-zero temperatures; if equipped&ndash;fly a ski plane from hard-pack to deep powder, and generally get very well acquainted with cold weather and winter operations&mdash;to include survival gear and training.</p>
• check_circle <p>Less than five air miles from Rocky Mountain National Park, the Fraser Valley is an ideal place for pilots to bring their families. Because of its resort nature, Winter Park and the Fraser Valley offer everything from mountain biking and rafting in summer to skiing, snowshoeing and hunting in winter. There are plenty of restaurants<em></em> and accommodations range from bed and breakfasts to all-inclusive resorts. There is no shortage of things for the whole family to enjoy while pilots gain valuable skills.
